GRAND RAPIDS, MI – December 17, 2019 – A new Starbucks has opened on Cascade Road in Cascade Township. The iconic brands new location at 6753 Cascade Road SE and the corner of 28th Street has brought new life to the local neighborhood with the drive-through, outside seating and updated building facades.
Dave Denton of DAR Development, the Tenant Representative for Starbucks, said Starbucks had been looking for a drive-through location on Cascade Road for several years, but they had been unable to find a site that could accommodate a drive-through.
When a few spaces became vacant in the middle of a retail center represented by DAR Development, Denton recalled a Starbucks location in Naples, Florida, that had demolished a vacant rental suite to accommodate a drive-through. Denton shared his idea with Darrel Herweyer of DAR, and the plans to bring Starbucks to Cascade were set into motion.
On behalf of the property’s landlord, Herweyer engaged architect Mark Tomasik of Innovative Design and Darren Herweyer of DAR Construction to design, demo and build the new Starbucks location.
“We removed nearly 3,500 sq. ft. of retail space between Rx Optical and PakMail to create a 2,148 sq. ft. Starbucks with a drive-thru,” said Denton. “Sometimes less can be more, and in this case, less overall square footage in the building added greater overall value to the center. And an upgrade to Starbucks, a sought-after national tenant.”
This was a great collaboration between the property owner, real estate brokers, design, construction and Starbucks.
*A 1,526 SF retail space is currently available next to Starbucks.
